Pre-Trip
Inspection Checklist

Generate a personalized pre-trip inspection checklist with your company, unit and driver name. 35 verification points as a print-ready PDF to mark every day.

The pre-trip inspection of a freight truck in Mexico should include verification of brakes, tires, fluid levels, lights, mirrors, vehicle documentation and operator documentation — all in accordance with NOM-068-SCT-2 for federal transport. Performing this inspection and documenting it protects the carrier in the event of an accident or roadside check, since it shows preventive measures were taken. This tool generates the 35-point checklist as a PDF with space for the operator's signature.

Frequently asked questions

How often should the pre-trip inspection be done?

Before every workday or shift, regardless of whether the unit went out the day before without issues. NOM-012-SCT-2-2017 and good transport practices establish that it is the driver's responsibility to verify the unit's condition before starting operations.

What happens if the unit fails the inspection?

The unit should not go out to operate until the fault is corrected. The checklist is documented evidence that protects the driver and the company in accidents or National Guard inspections. The fault should be reported to maintenance immediately.

Can I generate a different checklist for each unit in my fleet?

Yes, with no limit. Each PDF is personalized with the company name, the unit, the driver, the date and the shift. You can generate one per unit and per day.

Is the pre-trip inspection regulated by any NOM in Mexico?

Yes. NOM-012-SCT-2-2017 on weights and dimensions establishes that federal freight vehicles must be in adequate technical and mechanical condition before circulating. NOM-068-SCT-2-2014 specifies the physical-mechanical condition requirements for federal freight transport. This checklist covers the main points of both standards and can be used as documentary evidence during National Guard inspections.

How long does a proper pre-trip inspection take?

A complete inspection of the 35 points takes between 15 and 25 minutes with a trained operator. The first few days it may take longer while the driver becomes familiar with the format, but with practice it becomes a fast, automatic process. This time investment can prevent a mechanical failure on the road that would cost hours of lost time and hundreds of pesos in towing service.
