Enter the vehicle type, year, mileage and condition to get the suggested sale price with Blue Book reference and analysis of whether it's worth repairing before selling.
The sale price of a used truck in Mexico is determined mainly by the model year, kilometers driven, the unit's overall condition, and the Blue Book or Autofact reference for that configuration. An 2018 dump truck with 400,000 km in good condition can be worth between $450,000 and $650,000 MXN, while one with an accident history or no documented maintenance can lose up to 30% of that value. This tool calculates the suggested sale price and analyzes whether it's worth investing in repairs before selling.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a used vehicle worth in Mexico?
A 5-year-old sedan in good condition is worth approximately 55-65% of its original price. A work pickup can retain up to 70%. The Blue Book is the most-used market reference in Mexico, and this calculator approximates those values with standard depreciation tables by vehicle type.
Is it worth repairing a vehicle before selling it?
It depends on the cost vs. the gain. A cosmetic improvement can increase the price 8-15% vs. regular condition. If the repair cost is less than 70% of that gain, it's generally worth repairing. This calculator does that analysis automatically when you enter the estimated repair cost.
How does mileage affect the sale price?
A vehicle with fewer km than expected can increase its value by up to 8%. One with excess km can reduce it by 5 to 20%. For a sedan, the expected average is ~18,000 km/year; for tractor-trailers, ~120,000 km/year.
What is the "list price when new"?
It's the dealer's official price when the vehicle first went to market. You can find it on the original invoice, on sites like Autocosmos, or in the manufacturer's records. It's the basis on which accumulated depreciation is calculated.
How to calculate the price of your used car in Mexico?
Knowing how much your used car is worth before listing it for sale makes the difference between selling it quickly at a fair price or having it sit for months. In Mexico, the most-used reference is the Mexico Blue Book — a price guide that estimates a vehicle's commercial value based on make, model, year and trim. However, the Blue Book doesn't consider mechanical condition or actual mileage, so this calculator complements that estimate with precise adjustments.
To calculate the price of a pre-owned car correctly, three factors must be considered: accumulated depreciation from years of use, the excess or shortfall of kilometers versus the expected average, and the vehicle's actual aesthetic and mechanical condition. A car with 80,000 km at 5 years (the expected average for a sedan) in good condition can be worth 60-65% of its original price. One with 150,000 km in the same period can be worth 45-50%.
The commercial value of a vehicle also varies by type. Work pickups (Hilux, Ranger, Frontier, L200) retain value better than compact sedans because their work demand is constant. A tractor-trailer or cargo truck has its own depreciation curves related to intensive use. This calculator includes tables differentiated by vehicle type to give an estimate closer to the real market.
Before listing, check the suggested price on platforms like Mercado Libre and OLX for similar used cars in Mexico. If this calculator's price matches the range you see listed, you're in the right zone. If your price is higher, you need to justify it with documentable extras: maintenance history, recent parts, spare tire, dent-free bodywork.
