Driver Severance
Calculator

Calculate the total to pay your driver with a breakdown of trips, rate, and deductions. Generates the PDF receipt.

A transportation driver's severance in Mexico is calculated based on trips made, the agreed rate per km or per trip, and applicable deductions (IMSS, ISR, advances, or damages). The final amount varies by payment scheme: fixed salary, percentage of the freight, or a combination of both. This calculator generates the full breakdown and a PDF receipt ready to hand to the operator.

Frequently asked questions

How often is a driver's severance done?

It depends on the agreement with each driver. Weekly settlements are common on short, local routes. Biweekly ones are the most frequent in medium-sized fleets. Monthly ones apply more to salaried drivers or long-distance routes.

What happens if the deductions exceed the gross total?

This is a situation that should be avoided. If the driver ends up with a negative balance, it means more advances were given or more expenses were generated than what they earned in trips. Smart Fleet warns you before that happens, showing the balance in real time.

Should I keep a receipt of the severance?

Yes. It's advisable for the driver to sign or confirm the breakdown of each settlement. You can download the PDF from this calculator as an informal receipt. With Smart Fleet you can keep the settlement history per driver permanently.

Is driver severance different from their payroll?

Yes. Payroll is the payment to drivers registered as employees with IMSS, ISR, and benefits (salaried mode). Per-trip settlement is the most common scheme in trucking, where the driver receives a percentage or fixed amount per trip made and isn't necessarily on formal payroll. Consult an accountant to determine which scheme applies to your case.

Can I customize the deductions based on my type of operation?

Yes. Deduction items vary based on the agreement. They can include fuel, advances, fines, petty cash quotas, deductions for damage to the unit, or any other agreed-upon item. What matters is that they're documented in writing and the driver accepted them before operating.
